How did I get Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)? I was in the eight grade attending Waiakea Intermediate School in Hilo Hawaii. On the fall intersession I of my eight grade year my family and I had gotten invited to a Halloween Party at our friend’s house. At that time, I had gotten a brand new skate board because I had a bet with my dad that if I were to get a 4.0 GPA then he has to buy me a skate board. Then I got a 4.0 GPA and I have ridden my skateboard every day since. And on Halloween October 31, 2011 I went for a short ride with a few of my friends down the road from my his house and within a few minutes from leaving his house I crashed on one of the busiest roads in town. I crashed and cracked my skull. It was a three-inch fracture on my skull and I have a scar on the back of my head from the accident because of the internal bleeding my scalp popped open. I had gotten rushed to the hospital and then later got medivacked to the Queens Medical Center on the island of Ohau in the Intensive Care Unit. I could not remember who I was and where I was when I woke up from being unconscious for 3 days. I woke up with a whole lot of cables connected to me and I was not able to eat any food and and if I did I could not hold it down. The doctor told me that if I can not hold down any food I will not be released. From the accident I have lost some of the hearing in my right ear, had to train my self what food taste like and I still have a hard time smelling because I broke the bridges of my smell in my nose. All from the accident.
I plan on going to school to become a registered nurse and help the injuries and cases similar to what happened to me.
